Coal logistics across Africa
Coal is a logistics business as much as a mining one. Most failed coal contracts in Africa fail in transit, not at the pit. We contract haulage, rail slots and port handling directly so the tonnage you ordered arrives when we said it would.
Our team manages loading, weighbridge certification, transit bonds, border clearance, demurrage exposure and proof of delivery on every consignment.
Corridors we operate
Hwange to Beitbridge and Durban; Hwange to Beira via Mutare; Hwange to Walvis Bay via the Trans-Kalahari; and cross-border road into Zambia, the DRC, Botswana and Malawi.
Road versus rail
Rail is cheaper per tonne-kilometre but wagon availability and slot allocation are the constraints in the region. Road is more expensive and more reliable. We quote both and often run a hybrid so your monthly tonnage is not hostage to a single mode.
Border and documentation control
Certificate of origin, export permits, transit bonds, phytosanitary and inspection paperwork, and destination customs entry are all handled in-house or through appointed clearing agents we pay directly.
Frequently asked questions
- Who bears the demurrage risk?
- On delivered terms, we do. That is the point of contracting logistics through us rather than assembling it yourself.
- Can you deliver into a private siding?
- Yes, where rail access exists. Otherwise we deliver by road direct to plant.
